Why this story matters:

The "Expecting" application is the first project of it's kind in Croatia.

"'Expecting' is a significant step towards increasing the level of knowledge of future parents about pregnancy, childbirth and reproductive health," Libela Portal reported.

It's also not only for women and it has been made for non-commercial purposes.

Croatia has recently seen a viral social media campaign where women shared stories of obstetric violence, most notably births or other procedures conducted with inadequate anesthesia. Roda Association, the creator of the app, hopes to improve knowledge about pregnancy to help both women and men make informed decisions about pregnancy.

Details from the story:

  • The application is the result of collaboration between experts in Croatia, Slovenia and the Czech Republic. It is available for download at iOS and Android phones.
  • It is entirely free for use and includes no advertisement.
  • Part of the content specifically targets future fathers.
