Why this story matters:

Mounir Mahjoubi is a politician currently serving as the Secretary of State for Digital Affairs of the French government. The 34-year-old recently decided to open up to the media about private life, especially his relationship with his partner, Mickaël Jozefowicz.

The widely read magazine Paris Match published pictures of the couple's home in its latest issue. Mahjoubi is quoted as saying:

"I'm at peace... and very much in love."

The article itself is nothing spectacular, but it does seem noteworthy that this is the first time that a serving LGBT+ member of the French government is officially featured in pictures with their partner -- and Mahjoubi does so spontaneously, without apologies or political justifications, much like any heterosexual would introduce their partner.

Details from the story:

  • On July 19 The French magazine Paris Match just published pictures of Mounir Mahjoubi and Mickaël Jozefowicz, an homosexual couple.
  • Mounir Mahjoubi is currently the national secretary of the digital affairs in the French government.
  • He is also part the President Macron's movement En Marche!
  • This is the time that a LGBT+ member of the government has officially published pictures of their same-sex partner.
  • On Twitter, many applauded this initiative to normalize LGBT+ couples in public life.
