Why this story matters:

News outlets across the UK are reporting that Meghan Markle has “snubbed” the Queen's doctors in selecting her own delivery team. Markle, who is set to give birth in the coming month, has been subjected to constant scrutiny throughout her pregnancy including rumours her pregnancy is fake.

According to claims Markle has appointed a team of doctors led by a female, insisting she does not want “the men in suits” to control the birth of her first child.

Doctors Alan Farthing and Guy Thorpe-Beeston are the traditional choices for the role. The two men led the birth team for the birth of the last three royal children.

Supporters of the Duchess have emphasized that this is a personal choice, questioning how anyone could judge her for choosing her own terms for her pregnancy.

Details from the story:

  • Royal protocol states the Queen’s doctors must be included to some extent.
  • Farthing and Thorpe-Beeston specialise in high-risk birth.
  • Her new doctor has not been revealed.
  • The Duchess has also chosen not to give birth in the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital.
